MANAGING YOUR MEDICINE CABINET

Information provided by LifeCare Medical Center and Altru Health System

Monitor (Know What Meds Are In Your Home): Inventory all prescriptions and over the counter medicines in your home and know the quantities.  Keep medications in their original containers.

Secure (Lock Up Your Medications): Store them in a combination safe, locked cabinet, or locked drawer - not your medicine cabinet, around the home, in a vehicle or your purse.  Medications are often abused because they are easily accessible and they are the leading cause of unintentional poisoning in children.

Dispose (Safely Dispose of All Expired and Unused Medications): For information on how you can properly dispose of medications, please visit altru.org/drugdisposal
